The Asian Handicap in handball is a betting market designed to eliminate the possibility of a draw by giving one team a head start in terms of goals. This type of handicap is commonly used in football (soccer) but can also be applied to handball betting.
How It Works
In handball, Asian Handicap betting works by adjusting the final score based on the given handicap. The stronger team (favorite) is given a goal disadvantage, while the weaker team (underdog) is given a goal advantage.
Examples of Asian Handicap in Handball
1. Asian Handicap (-2.5)
If you bet on Team A -2.5, they must win by at least 3 goals for your bet to win.
If Team A wins by 2 goals or fewer, or loses, the bet loses.
2. Asian Handicap (+2.5)
If you bet on Team B +2.5, they can win, draw, or lose by up to 2 goals for your bet to win.
If they lose by 3 or more goals, the bet loses.
3. Asian Handicap (-2.0)
If you bet on Team A -2.0:
A win by 3 or more goals = Win.
A win by exactly 2 goals = Stake refunded (push).
A win by 1 goal, a draw, or a loss = Lose.
4. Asian Handicap (+2.0)
If you bet on Team B +2.0:
A loss by 1 goal, a draw, or a win = Win.
A loss by exactly 2 goals = Stake refunded (push).
A loss by 3 or more goals = Lose.
5. Quarter-Handicap (e.g., -1.75 or +1.25)
A handicap like -1.75 means half of your stake is placed on -1.5 and half on -2.0.
If the team wins by 2 goals, half of the bet wins (from -1.5) and the other half is refunded (from -2.0).
Key Points
Handicap removes the possibility of a draw in betting.
Whole-number handicaps (e.g., -2.0, +1.0) can result in a push (refund).
Quarter-goal handicaps (-1.25, +1.75) split the stake between two close handicaps.
It makes betting more dynamic and fair by balancing teams of different strengths.
