Player Triple Double (incl. Overtime) In Basketball
In basketball, a triple-double occurs when a player achieves double-digit totals in three out of five key statistical categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots, all within the same game.
This achievement is considered a significant milestone, reflecting a player's all-around contribution to the game.
The five categories used to determine a triple-double are:
- Points: The total number of points a player scores in a game.
- Rebounds: The number of times a player retrieves the ball after a missed shot.
- Assists: The number of times a player passes the ball to a teammate who scores.
- Steals: The number of times a player takes the ball away from an opposing player.
- Blocked Shots: The number of times a player blocks an opposing player's shot.
To achieve a triple-double, a player must have at least 10 or more in three of these categories.
Examples:
18 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists
17 points, 14 assists, and 13 rebounds
11 rebounds, 10 assists, 10 steals, and 4 points
Significance:
The triple-double is a highly coveted stat line in basketball, indicating a player's versatility and impact on the game.
